The Jets have travelled to Melbourne for the clash with the front-running Victory without key midfielders Zenon Caravella and Ben Kantarovski.
But coach Phil Stubbins is adamant his side will not take the field with a defeatist attitude.
“We are not going to go there fearful of who they have got (in their side),” Stubbins said.
“The stats that we’ve got would indicate they have got a very powerful strike-force. There are some very good players that have gone to that club and been very effective.
“Barisha’s an obvious one and Finkler, Thompson.
“It’s just another big challenge that we’ll be up for.”
While Newcastle has suffered from a dearth of goals all season, their recent form at home suggests they can at least make Victory have to work if they are to secure all three points.
“We just gone through the stats of our last three games and we’ve led in every department,”Stubbins said.
“Duels won, entries into the front third, shots on goal – we have sort of thrown the kitchen sink at them to be quite frank.
“Against Adelaide, we were very unlucky and also against Perth, we created enough chances to win maybe a couple of games there.
“Look, it hasn’t gone our way in front of goal but the pleasing thing is that we have created a lot of chances and we have certainly been in those games but at the end of the day, the boys have got to take those chances.”
Stubbins expects to have Kantarovski (groin) back for Sydney FC next weekend but Caravella is having scans after rolling his ankle and could be struggling to return.
