Andy Murray beats Bernard Tomic 3-0

BERNARD Tomic has been handed a harsh lesson in the realities of grand slam tennis, suffering Australian Open defeat despite a superb attacking display against Andy Murray.
A four-time Melbourne Park finalist, Murray smothered 16th seed Tomic 6-4 6-4 7-6 (7-4) to terminate Australia’s hopes of ending a 40-year title drought.
As superior as Murray was, Tomic refused to submit, taking risks at every opportunity with 10 aces, 33 winners - and a terminal 56 unforced errors.
Nursing wrist soreness, Tomic said Murray’s defensive skill was frustrating.
“I knew I had to be aggressive, but not over-aggressive,” Tomic said.
“It just frustrates you so much because Andy’s just so, so fit, so ready for every ball.
“He gets back everything. It’s just amazing what he can get back. It just shocks you.
“I go for more. Against other players that I’m dominant over I feel comfortable, but against him, you just don’t.
“That’s why he’s one of the best players in the world. You know, for me to get there, I need to work very hard. But everything is there. I just have to stay healthy, like I said before.”
But, illustrating why he is regarded as a counter-punching genius, Murray cleverly soaked up Tomic’s pace to deny the talented Australian in a high quality contest.
