The match in a tweet: A hat-trick to AJ Tye seals a crucial win for the Scorchers!
The hero: Michael Klinger was the sole shining light in a dour Scorchers innings, scoring a pivotal 81 off 54 balls when the next highest score was Ian Bell’s 14. The Scorchers veteran survived a couple of close calls, the first on 25 when Joe Burns and Brendon McCullum collided chasing a catch chance in the outfield. Then on 54, Klinger appeared to glove a Ben Cutting bouncer through to wicketkeeper Jimmy Peirson, only for it to be ruled a wide. The extra runs turned out to be the difference for the Scorchers as they took some revenge for last week’s loss to the Heat at the WACA Ground.
The hat-trick: AJ Tye earned himself a special place in Big Bash League history when he claimed just the second BBL hat-trick. The first wicket came with the final ball of the 18th over when Jack Wildermuth was caught behind by substitute ‘keeper Cameron Bancroft. Mitch Swepson was then caught by debutant Tim Bresnan on the first ball of the final over, before Tye cleaned up Mark Steketee’s stumps with the hat-trick ball. Funnily enough, the Scorchers paceman didn’t even realise what he’d done.
