Western Derby: Eagles bracing for Fremantle fans to boo Ross Glendinning

West Coast are bracing for a negative crowd reaction towards Ross Glendinning when he presents the medal to the best player in Sunday’s western derby.
Glendinning has been the centre of a controversial and angry debate this week which has led to the award being re-named later this season to also include a significant Fremantle player.
Sunday’s match is a Dockers home game and the crowd will be filled with predominantly Fremantle fans.
Eagles coach Adam Simpson said regardless of who wins the game, Glendinning understood he was now unlikely to get a positive welcome.
“He’s got thick skin. He’ll be fine, no matter how he gets treated after the game,” Simpson said.
“It’s a passionate sport and passionate supporters. It’d be great if we all showed him the respect on game day but I don’t think he’s planning for it. It’s just footy. He’s okay.”
Former Eagles captain Chris Judd was famously booed after winning the Ross Glendinning Medal in a losing team. Glendinning asked the crowd to show more respect that day and Judd recognised the reaction by starting his speech saying “popular decision”.
West Coast are $1.63 favourites to win the derby with TABTouch but Nat Fyfe is the early favourite to be best on ground. He is paying $7 to win the Glendinning Medal, while Luke Shuey, Elliot Yeo and Josh Kennedy are locked together as the most fancied Eagles at $9.
