The Barcelona star was due to sign for Chinese Super League club Chongqing Lifan, but the club was forced to back out of the deal due to CSL regulations on spending.
Instead, Iniesta is now favoured to join J-League side Vissel Kobe in a move reportedly worth 25 million euros per-season.
However, Spanish outlet Sport reported that Iniesta may prefer the A-League due to Australia’s climate and quality of life. As a result, FFA are looking to survey Iniesta’s potential interest in the competition.
“The Barça captain sees with good eyes the option of going to a country where family level would find much tranquility and in a league that is up , with the arrival of several European players," the report said.
"Alessandro del Piero was one of the last big names to play the championship, like David Villa, who did it for a few months at Melbourne City FC .
"The exoticism of China would change to a much more distant whereabouts, but with a lifestyle in which you could feel very comfortable.”
There is a $3 million marquee fund available to clubs wishing to bring megastars into the A-League, which four clubs are reportedly interested in claiming.
Iniesta is the equal-most decorated footballer in history, with 31 major titles for Barcelona alongside former teammate Lionel Messi.
