Top West Coast draft pick Jarrod Brander commits to contract extension

First-round draft pick Jarrod Brander is sticking with West Coast through to the end of 2021 after signing a two-year extension.
The No.13 pick in last year’s draft has put a series of strong performances on the part at East Perth after surprisingly solid pre-season form for a young key forward.
The 195cm marking target has kicked 10 goals in five games for the Royals this season, averaging 17 disposals and seven marks.
Eagles list manager Brady Rawlings told the club’s website he was thrilled with the teenager’s form and predicted he would push for a debut sooner rather than later.
“He’s performed very consistently in the WAFL as a key forward,” Rawlings said.
“His work rate, athletic traits and skill level have all stood up at WAFL level, which is a really good sign for a first-year, key position player.
“He’s a very competitive person and I’m sure he’s got his sights on playing AFL this year. We’re in no rush to play Jarrod, but I’m sure if his performances continue like they have been he could push into the team.”
