AFL Trades: Peter Bell ‘desperate’ to keep Lachie Neale at Fremantle

New Fremantle football boss Peter Bell says he is desperate to keep Lachie Neale in purple next season and beyond.
The Dockers best and fairest has been linked with a trade to Brisbane this off-season in one of the biggest player movement shocks this year.
But if Bell, the former captain who was this week appointed the club’s general manager of football operations, has his way, Neale will be staying put at the Dockers.
The 25-year-old still has one year to run on his contract before becoming eligible for free agency.
“Lachie knows exactly where I sit. I caught up with Lachie and I do regularly actually because I’ve got an affinity with anyone who’s under 5’10’’,” Bell told 94.5.
“Lachie’s been an exceptional player and a quality person at Fremantle and he knows what my position is and that is that I’ll be desperate to retain Lachie Neale and do everything within my power to do so.
“I’m hopeful he’ll stay, I desperately want him to stay,”
The Dockers have also entered trade discussion surrounding Melbourne key forward Jesse Hogan, who is reportedly interested in moving home to Perth.
Bell wouldn’t be drawn on the details, but said the club would be happy to talk with the young star.
“It seems like there’s going to be a lot of action (this trade period),” Bell said.
“We’re on record as saying if there’s talented players who express a desire to come to Western Australia.. we’re interested in talking to them.”
