AFL trades 2018: GWS star Dylan Shiel nominated Essendon as preferred club

Dylan Shiel has nominated Essendon as his preferred destination as he seeks a trade out of GWS.
The contracted Giants midfielder is keen to head to the Bombers, but his current club may be reluctant to get a deal done.
GWS released a statement acknowledging Essendon was Shiel’s club of choice, but said they would hold him to the final year of his contract if they could not be satisfied.
“Dylan has been a big part of this club for a number of years and we have been having mature and honest conversations, particularly considering he will enter free agency at the end of next year.
“The Giants are prepared to discuss potential trade options with the Bombers that sees an appropriate return for the club.
“Dylan is contracted to the Giants for the 2019 season and he will remain a Giant should a suitable trade not be reached.”
Shiel has played 135 games since GWS’ inception in 2012, the second-highest tally in the club’s short history.
He could be the second Giant to make the switch to Essendon in as many years after Devon Smith’s move last year.
Shiel’s manager Paul Connors told Trade Radio his client had personally rang representatives at St Kilda, Carlton and Hawthorn to inform them of his preference to join Essendon over them.
