The Melburnians released a statement on their Facebook page last night announcing their clash against Melbourne Victory be the last the club would see of them.
The post accused City, Victoria Police and stadium security of being restrictive on their active support.
Today, City released a short Facebook post farewelling the Melburnians, which was greeted with many angry comments from disgruntled fans.
“Thanks to the Melburnians for their support – let’s make Saturday louder than ever!,” the club’s post read.
One fan replied: "Yeah cheers for your support too aye", while many other people replied with popcorn gifs.
While fans of opposition clubs have laughed at the decision, many have commented believing the disbandment is bad for the league overall.
The post also insisted that the disbandment has nothing to do with Bruno Fornaroli, with rumours emerging that the Uruguayan has been dropped by Warren Joyce because he is set to sign for a rival club.
FFA have also been contacted for comment but did not respond to FTBL.
