But the wing sensation is refusing to spit the dummy over the snub and while he admits he's disappointed not to get the call up, he said today: "I'm not going to sit here and feel sorry for myself..."
Goodwin has dazzled for Adelaide UnIted this season, providing goals and assists upfront in a makeshift attacking line that has had to compensate for key injuries.
Marquee hitman Baba Diawara has only played 20 minutes this season and other injuries have also ravaged the squad's set of forwards.
Goodwin has stepped up his game as a result and been the undoubted star of his side this season.
"Having our marquee out, it's a blow for us," said Goodwin today."We've had a bit of depth and we've managed to pitch in with goals from a few different players.
"For myself, if I can get on the scoresheet as much as possible, I'm happy."
He looked set to be rewarded with a green and gold call up for the Asian Cup...but despite injuries to key players in the Socceroos, he was overlooked for a place on the plane to Dubai.
"Graham Arnold called me and explained his reasoning and that's the way it is," he said. "He just said I'm doing really well and just to keep it going.
"He's picked the players he has for for his reasons, but he sees me as someone who can provide something different and if I keep going, then my time will come."
Goodwin admitted: "Obviously it's disappointing.
"But I have to get on with it and try to put in good performances week in, week out. So long as I am performing consistently with Adelaide then I'm happy with myself and the way I'm going.
"I just have to try to prove the coach wrong and get into the next squads."
The lacklustre performance from Australia against Jordan on Sunday may have only fuelled bitterness in some – but Goodwin is determined not to let it get to him.
"I'm confident in my ability and I have the confidence in myself that if I was there, I could do a job," he said.
"But it is the coach's decision at the end of the day and if he's not seeing something nowthen I have to just do my best and to try to prove him wrong so I can get a spot in thefuture."
