Former Fremantle midfielder Lachie Neale defends comments made following Brisbane pre-season game

Brisbane midfielder Lachie Neale has defended his relationship with Fremantle skipper Nat Fyfe, following comments he made on Sunday after the Lions’ 42-point pre-season win over Hawthorn.
Neale stunned the football world at the end of last season when he requested a trade from the Dockers to Chris Fagan’s side, a year before he was due to qualify for free agency.
Speaking post-match after notching 31 touches in a best-on-ground performance, the 25-year-old was quick to heap praise on his new teammates.
“There’s not one bloke trying to run the show and be the man in there,” Neale said.
“It’s a really selfless group and I think everyone works for one.
“Whoever gets it, it doesn’t matter.
“Guys want to work for each other.”
AFL Media journalist Travis King tweeted that Neale’s comments were “interesting”, prompting the 25-year-old on-baller to hit back.
“Come on Travis. Can I not say anything about my current club without it being about my former club? Getting ridiculous,” Neale wrote.
“For the record I love Nathan Fyfe. (He) attended my wedding, so I think we’re on pretty good terms.”
New teammate Mitch Robinson also jumped to Neale’s defence.
“Guys.. come on? New player at a new club with a new look midfield. Obviously describing share the load mentality and building synergy.”
Fremantle hosts Brisbane at Optus Stadium in round 10 on Sunday, May 26.
